Upwardly Mobile – Was this RTE’s worst ever comedy series?

Just added this to the site today and never having seen it before decided to watch an episode on YouTube. I had read the scathing reviews but foolishly went ahead – 10 minutes in and I had seen more than enough! Seems to have aired only once and then disappeared into the vaults at Montrose. Just how does rubbish like this get the green light? Judge for yourselves – if you dare – and please do leave comments.

This from Damian Corless in the Irish Independent from October 2006 sums it up – ‘This series about a skanger family that win the lotto and move in beside snooty neighbours, took a classic sitcom set-up and bludgeoned it to death.

“The Journey” in cinemas from the 5th May, 2017

More than I can stomach, but you be the judge of this very fictional account of how Ian Paisley and Martin McGuinness brought peace to the island of Ireland.

The trailer looks a bit ropey, but Timothy Spall is well cast as the ‘big‘ man – not so sure about Colm Meaney as Martin McGuinness but that’s possibly due his over exposure of late. Still think his best role was as Jimmy “Senior” in “The Commitments” or as Chief O’Brien in “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine“.
